Discovered in 2001 in Piedmont, in the Cottian Alps, Italian alpine jade is a rare gem almost unknown to the global market. The identified deposits contain various varieties, including harlequin, spotted, omphacite, and multicolor. However, the most prized samples are of an intense green, jadeite variety, composed mainly of pyroxenes, jadeite, and omphacite minerals. A Prehistoric Treasure Monviso jade, also known as jadeite, is a precious green stone with ancient origins. Extracted from the slopes of Monviso about 7000 years ago, it traveled throughout Europe during the Neolithic period, becoming a symbol of power and transcendence. This stone was used to create ritual axes and other lithic tools, found throughout Europe, from Ireland to Bulgaria.
The formation of Monviso jade dates back to 175 million years ago, due to the high temperatures and pressures that transformed the ocean floor into the Monviso Group massif. This mountain group extends over 850 km² and reaches its highest point in the Cottian Alps with the peak of Monviso at 3842 m. ECONOMIC VALUE Today, Monviso jade is highly valued and can reach a price of over 400 euros per carat. This makes the stone not only a historical treasure but also a precious asset.
